Michel Uhlmann

Michel Uhlmann was 1952 in Strasbourg where he studied organ and musicology.

Later he made his studies for choral direction at the Basel Academy of Music. He has taken master courses with Franco Ferrara and Eric Ericson, and studied orchestral conducting with Franci Travis.

In addition to his position as choirmaster of the Choir of The Great Synagogue in Basel, for many years he

Ø is lecturer for voice education at the School of Music of the Basel Academy

Ø directs the choir of the students of the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis

Ø directs the vocal group of the open school of the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis

Ø directs the choir of the ‘Polymnie’ in Strasbourg (France)

Ø leads the research group at the Baroque Ensembles in Limoges (France)

Together with well-known musicians like Christophe Coin, Christopher Hogwood, Olivier Messiaen and Hans Martin Linde, he focuses on speech, rhetoric and poetics in music.

His pedagogical ability to teach, his learning methodology and his intensive voice trainings enables Michel Uhlmann to get the maximum out of a non-professional ensemble leading to a relatively high standing.
